General Audition Information
- You must sign-up for auditions
- Read the SIP 2021 Season Information Article
- All auditions conducted via video submission.
- All front ensemble/battery auditions must be performed with a metronome.
- Battery candidates are required to mark time during their audition.
- You will do one (1) audition on your first choice position.
- You are not guaranteed a position in the ensemble, but if you are offered a membership contract, you will be placed where the ensemble needs you the most.
- Students who perform incomplete auditions will not be considered for a position.
Video Submission Guidelines
- All audition videos are due Monday, November 9 by 11:59 pm
- Videos should be uploaded to your YouTube channel.
- Video angle should include a clear shot of playing surface, hands, and feet (feet battery candidates only).
- Metronome click should be audible.
- Each part of your audition should be be announced vocally or labeled before you perform it (example: “triplet rolls, entire exercise, 160 bpm”)
- E-Mail your unlisted YouTube video link and any other documents specified in your audition instructions to [email protected]
- Subject of the e-mail should include the following: SIP 2021 Audition, Last Name, First Name, Instrument you are auditioning on.
Snare — Triplet Rolls (Entire Exercise 160 bpm. Top, A, B 3″, C 9″-3″)
Snare Part of Diddle Breaks (105 bpm, feet at 2nd position for tag)
Stick Control (3″, 105 bpm)
Etude of student’s choosing (should not exceed one minute, and please provide Mr. Albert a copy in your submission e-mail)
Tenors — Triplet Rolls Entire Exercise 160 bpm (around drums). Top, A, B 3″, C 9″-3″
Tenor Part of Diddle Breaks (105 bpm, feet at 2nd position for tag)
Stick Control (3″, 105 bpm, around)
Etude of student’s choosing (should not exceed one minute, and please provide Mr. Albert a copy in your submission e-mail).
Bass Drum — Up chucks (9″ 110 bpm), B-C Double/Triple (snare part, 12″ 160 bpm), Timing (6″ 110 bpm), Check Patterns 11-14 (6″ 110 bpm)
Flubs — Triplet Rolls Top, A,B,C 146 bpm (snare part), Diddle Breaks (12″-3″, 90 bpm, stop at tag), Timing (3″, 110 bpm)
Marching Cymbals — (all performed on a snare drum/pad) Timing (3″, 110 bpm), Check Patterns 11-14 (6″, 110 bpm)
Mallet Audition — (for any mallet position in SIP)
Green Scales Ab Major holding 2 mallets 1 rep, holding 4 mallets another rep, both at 128 bpm and 6″
Broccoli at 88 bpm
4 Mallet Floor Party 22-27 (70 bpm, take all repeats)
*Optional* Etude of student’s choosing (should not exceed one minute, and please provide Mr. Albert a copy in your submission e-mail)
Rack Percussion — Timing (6″, 110 bpm), Check Patterns 5-10 and 11-14 (6″, 110 bpm), Double/Triple (snare part, 6″, 110 bpm).
Synth (1 and 2) — Major scales C, F, Bb, Eb (in the format given, 105 bpm)
Piano Etude of student’s choosing (should not exceed one minute, and please provide Mr. Albert a copy in your submission e-mail).
