This article contains the requirements and materials for the 2017 Sparkman Indoor Percussion Ensemble auditions.
All students auditioning for a marching position (except visual ensemble) must complete a standard marching left box 8 drill (all tendu step) with no obliques.
Snare Audition (audition sheet, diddleBreaks) diddleBreaks to be performed at dotted quarter note = 110 bpm
Tenor Audition (audition sheet, diddleBreaks) diddleBreaks to be performed at dotted quarter note = 110 bpm
Bass Drum Audition Please take given tempos and be prepared to perform with a metronome.
Marching Cymbal Audition Please take given tempos and be prepared to perform with a metronome.
Marching Tom (flubs)/Rack Percussion Audition Please take given tempos and be prepared to perform with a metronome.
Mallet Audition (for students auditioning for any of the following instruments: xylo, vibes, marimba). Please take given tempos and be prepared to perform with a metronome.
Marimba Etude Marimba candidates should perform: A-C, E-F, Page 6 first eight measures. Please take given tempo and be prepared to perform with a metronome.
Vibraphone/Xylo Etude Vibraphone and xylophone candidates should perform: Top-D. Please take given tempo and be prepared to perform with a metronome.
Synthesizer Audition (for both synth 1 and 2) Tempo should be quarter note = 120 bpm. Please take repeats.
Visual Ensemble candidates should prepare a 30 second dance solo in a ballet/lyrical style with appropriate music. The audition should highlight your movement skills as well as any other technical dance skills that you possess. You will learn an additional audition routine at the 2 clinics on Monday, November 7th and Wednesday, November 9th from 3:45-5:45 pm.
