On October 17 the Sparkman High School Competition Band will compete in their first marching competition for the 2015 season at the Tennessee Valley Marching Invitational located in Muscle Shoals, Alabama.
The following instructions apply to Competition Band Students. Marching Band Students should see the instructions at the bottom of this page. Schedules are subject to change and will be updated on this article in red.
Uniform/Equipment
Competition instruments and equipment should be staged for the competition after the Friday night James Clemens football game. Students will take their uniforms on the school bus and students will dress once they arrive at Muscle Shoals High School. Changing rooms will be available for students or they may elect to get dressed on the bus upon arrival. Remember to be in full uniform at all times in public.
Performance/Post Performance
After the Competition Band performs, all students (except front ensemble) will go directly into the designated seating area for Sparkman High School located on the visitor side. Large instruments can be staged in designated areas until the end of the awards ceremonies. Front ensemble members will help take equipment back to the equipment truck before returning for the awards ceremonies.
Drum majors, guard captains and section leaders will participate in the awards ceremonies and should be prepared to enter the field after the UNA exhibition performance.

The first 40 marching band students to sign up will ride on bus #6.
- Bus 1 – Clarinets, Drum Majors (Competition Band)
- Bus 2 – Saxophones, Trumpets (Competition Band)
- Bus 3 – Mellophones, Trombones, Baritones, Tubas (Competition Band)
- Bus 4 – Percussion
- Bus 5 – Flutes, Color Guard (Competition Band)
- Bus 6 – All marching band students
Schedule
- 1:00-3:00pm – Percussion Rehearsal
- 3:00pm – Percussion Call Time to load equipment on truck
- 4:30pm – Call Time for all students (Eat supper before you arrive)
- 5:00pm – Depart Sparkman and travel to Muscle Shoals HS (Driving Directions)
- 6:45pm – Dress into uniform and prepare equipment
- 7:45pm – Enter warmup area
- 8:30pm – Sparkman performance time
- 9:30pm – UNA Exhibition Performance
- 9:45pm – Awards Ceremony
- 10:45pm – Estimated departure
- Midnight – Estimated arrival at SHS

Marching Band Students
Any marching band student that would like to attend this event should sign up for a seat on the bus. MARCHING BAND STUDENTS MUST SIGN UP TO ATTEND THIS EVENT. These students will travel to and from the event on a bus. They will not need their uniforms or instruments but should wear their band shirt. Marching Band students should NOT stage their instruments in the staging area after the football game. Students should bring money for food in the concession stand OR eat before they arrive for call time.
Stage crew students will wear their uniforms with no gauntlets.
