District Honor Band Student Information Sheet
Grissom High School – February 17-18, 2023
Congratulations on being selected for the District I Honor Band! We want you to have a great and safe experience. Make sure you read the following information prior to arriving.
Directions/Parking
Grissom High School is located at 1001 Haysland Road in Huntsville. Please park in the parking lot by the Martha DeFord Hayes Auditorium. There will be signs posted directing you where to go.
Schedule
Friday, February 17
- 5:30 p.m. – Seating of the Band (High School – Auditorium, Middle School – Band Room)
- 5:45-9:00 p.m. – Rehearsal
Saturday, February 18
- 8:30 a.m.-11:30 a.m. – Rehearsal (High School – Auditorium, Middle School – Band Room)
- Lunch (On Your Own)
- 1:00-4:00 p.m. – Rehearsal (Middle School – Auditorium, High School – Band Room)
- Dinner (On Your Own) and Change for Concert
- 6:30 p.m. – Assemble on Stage for Warm-Up
- 7:00 p.m. – CONCERT! (Grissom HS Auditorium)
Honor Band Procedures and Information
- Attendance at all rehearsals is mandatory. Absence from a rehearsal will result in removal from the honor band.
- Students should wear their school’s concert uniform for the Saturday evening performance.
- Students should not have cell phones/digital devices out during rehearsals.
- T-shirts, personalized plaques and more are available from Pep Wear! They will be for sale at the final concert.
- Concert Recordings will be available for purchase.
When you arrive at Honor Band, make sure you have:
- Your Instrument with all necessary accessories (reeds, valve oil, etc.)
- Middle School Trumpets will need mutes! High School Brass should bring mutes as well.
- Please bring a wire stand if you own one
- Percussionists need to bring their own snare and sticks/mallets.
- Your music will be waiting for you at your seat – along with a name tag for your music stand.
